World Blood Donor Day (14 June)

Blood transfusion saves number of lives every day, but adequate blood supply is needed to continue providing a helping hand to people who are in need. To encourage & create an awareness regarding blood donation, World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on 14 June. It is celebrated in memory of Karl Landsteiner, who discovered the ABO blood groups. Every year, this day is celebrated with different themes. The theme of 2017 is ‘Give Blood. Give Now. Give Often’.

This event serves to thank voluntary blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. It helps in motivating the regular blood donors to continue giving blood and other healthy people who have never given blood, especially young people, to begin donating blood voluntarily.
